A bikini is a women’s swim-suit, composing of two separate parts – one covering the chest, the other the groin, and optionally the buttocks, leaving the woman’s skin visible, between the two garments.
Both parts of a bikini closely resemble women’s undergarments, so the bottom part of a bikini can range from the more revealing style of a g-string or thong, to briefs and the much more modest square cut shorts.

Modern Origin
Officially, the modern bikini was invented by a French engineer, named Louis Reard, and fashion designer Jacques Heim in Paris (1946) and was introduced on July 5th at a fashion show at Piscine Molitor. This first garment was a string bikini with a g-string back.
However, women in Paris were wearing bikinis one year before the bikini was “invented”. This fact is documented with pictures in the ‘Life’ Magazine (July 16, 1945), although the article merely spoke of “French Bathing Suits”. Though the name had not yet been adopted, the swimsuits that the Parisian women were wearing are clearly recognizable as bikinis in both their style and coverage.
Reard’s suit was an enhancement of Jacques Heim’s work who, two months earlier, had introduced the “Atome” (named for its size), and it was advertised as the world’s “smallest bathing suit”.

Tanning Beds – Oversized tanning beds for both home and commercial use. Enjoy tanning without being squeezed in your bed.

Bikinis in Modern Culture
In Malta bikinis took some time to be socially acceptable. In the 60’s the police fended off a request from Bishop Michael Gonzi’s to ban bikini-clad tourists? following fear of compromising Malta as a tourist destination.
People that are familiar with Bikini Atoll’s history – particularly opponents of nuclear proliferation – may find the root and use of the word “bikini”, for a garment, as inappropriate, given its tongue-in-cheek “explosive” reputation effectively reduces the significance of a serious historic humanitarian crisis to a mere popular culture sex symbol in the minds of most people. The term “two-piece” is considered a neutral alternative.

Bikini Waxing
A bikini wax involves the removal of pubic hair around the “bikini” area. This is a fairly common procedure in the United States. The procedure is similar to that for the more extreme Brazilian wax. Unlike the Brazilian wax, a bikini wax can be performed privately in the home, but it is generally more convenient to have a licensed professional perform the procedure.

Brazilian waxing
Brazilian waxing is another type of waxing, involving the bikini area. This procedure involves the complete removal of hair from the buttocks and adjacent to the orifices and the area that connects them . It is a more thorough/extreme form of bikini waxing. Brazilian waxing procedures normally leave a strip of pubic hair above the vulva. While mainly associated with females, the practice is engaged in by males as well.

Electrolysis is a method by which body hair is removed. It can be performed on any part of the body except the ears and the inside of the nose. Women often have electrolysis done on their bikini area, underarms, tummy, breasts, chin, brows, and upper lip, although hair can also be removed on the toes, arms, forehead, buttocks and legs. Many men also use electrolysis to remove unwanted hair on their eyebrows, cheekbones, neck, but especially their shoulders and backs. Electrolysis can be arduous in that each individual hair must receive treatment. The treatment consists of a trained practitioner inserting a needle under the skin. An electric current passes through the hair follicle, damaging it.

It is believed that experiments involving electronial epilation (the removal of hair) were taking place as long ago as the Civil War era. Dr. Charles E. Michel (himself an ophthalmologist) reported in the St. Louis Clinical Record in 1875 of the first successful permanent hair epilation by electrolysis. Since then, electrolysis has become quite popular.

Is electrolysis for you? You should compare the pros and cons of receiving electrolysis before you make that decision. What are some of the advantages of using electrolysis for permanent hair removal? Perhaps the strongest case for using electrolysis for hair removal is that is has the best record of accomplishment for results. For over one hundred and twenty five years, practitioners have been removing hair safely and effectively. In fact, electrolysis is the only method approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a way to remove hair permanently. While some hair may grow back and require additional treatments, that hair is often thinner and lighter. Studies have shown that more than 90% of clients are happy with their electrolysis results.

While the advantages to having electrolysis are huge, a couple of smaller disadvantages may prevent some people off from trying it. One disadvantage is the cost involved. Electrolysis can be very expensive. The average cost of a one-hour electrolysis session is generally between $50 and $60. Remember, however, that during this one-hour session, each hair follicle has to be individually treated. Electrolysis sessions are often broken down into fifteen, thirty, and forty-five minute sessions as well, making them a bit more affordable. You may also get a discount by purchasing a package of two or more hours. Because it is not possible to remove the hair permanently in one treatment, you will need to have additional treatments. How many treatments you need is determined by many things including hair growth cycles, heredity, hormone function, and stress. The average cost of a complete treatment of your legs ranges between $1000 and $3000.

Another disadvantage of electrolysis is that it can be painful and there is a risk of scarring. The sensation of pain depends on each person’s pain threshold, but there is a feeling of a pinprick and of course, some areas of the body are more sensitive than other areas. Some people compare the pain of electrolysis to that of plucking a hair with a pair of tweezers. While scarring is not common, there is always a risk. Pitted scarring often occurs when flash thermolysis electrolysis is used on thick, deeply rooted hair as opposed to shallow, thin hair. Finding a qualified practitioner with years of experience should reduce the risk of scarring.

When considering electrolysis, there are several things you should ask the practitioner. Ask if they use needle electrolysis. This has a much higher success rate than those that use the electric tweezers or photoepilators. Ask how many clients they have treated and how long they have been in business. Finally, ask their qualifications and training for being a practitioner. One third of the states in the U.S. do not require a certification for electrologists. However, you can research the Internet to find whether your state is one that requires certification. If it is, the practitioner should have the certificate prominently displayed.

Some people are not good candidates for electrolysis. People with a pacemaker cannot receive electrolysis. Those with diabetes or other serious health problems should always contact their physician before seeking electrolysis treatments to make sure it is safe. Electrolysis is safe for women who are pregnant as long as the thermolysis mode is used. The decision to have electrolysis is a personal one. While it may require money and time, many people feel that the removal of hair boosts their self-esteem such, that it is well worth it. Megan Halloway is a cosmetologist specializing in hair removal.

Summer will be here before you know it (in the USA). Will this be the year that you get into amazing bathing suit shape for the beach or the pool? Follow this fool proof plan, starting today, and you’ll be sure to turn heads this summer.

Step1 – This is important! Take out one of your favorite swimsuits or bikinis. Put it on and look at yourself in the mirror. Write down what you would like to change about your body and try to imagine how your body will look with those changes. Also try to imagine how you will feel about yourself after those changes occur.

Take a mental snapshot of how you look in the mirror and make mental note of the things you want to change. This will be extremely helpful as you get closer to the summer season. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror, don’t get discouraged. Get inspired!

Before you take off the bathing suit, look yourself in the eyes, and make a promise to yourself that you will stay committed to making the necessary changes.

Step 2 – Start exercising. Don’t get crazy here, because you will end up quitting. Sit down with your calendar or schedule and write in your workout days, times and places. Not every workout needs to be in a gym. Your home, a local park or even a local playground are great places to have effective workouts.

If you haven’t been working out, start slowly and gradually build up your time and intensity. If you have been working out, start to kick the intensity up a bit. In the course of a week, you want to complete 3 – 5 cardio sessions, each lasting 25 – 35 minutes and 2 – 3 resistance/toning sessions, each also lasting 25 – 35 minutes. This is general guideline. Some weeks you may be able to do more and some weeks less. It is ok to do cardio and resistance on the same days if that is what your schedule allows.

Step 3 – Write down everything you eat and drink in a notebook (or PDA). The true secret to having a beautifully defined body is calorie control. The easiest, most realistic way to get them under control is to keep track of them. Don’t be obsessive here or you will drive yourself nuts.

Most of our foods have easy to read labels that are easy to understand. Use the calorie info on your labels and record these numbers next to what you eat and drink in your journal. Knowing how many calories you are taking in makes it much easier to adjust if you hit a plateau while trying to lose body fat. This method may require a bit of work in the beginning, but it is the method that has helped many of my clients defeat the body fat monster more than any other method in existence.

Step 4 – Stay committed to your self. If times get challenging, remember your mental snapshot of you in the swimsuit and picture yourself on the beach in the upcoming hot weather season. Remind yourself of the goals you wrote down. You may even want to make few copies of your goals. Put a copy on your refrigerator, one on your work desk, and one on your bathroom mirror. If you are not making progress, add a little time to your workouts or tighten up on your calories a bit.

Step 5 – Realize that you are in control of yourself and that no outside force can keep you from what you are going to achieve. If you miss a workout, tomorrow is a new day. If you eat too much, or you eat junk food (it is ok to ‘cheat’ sometimes), let that fuel your motivation in your next workout. Better yet, before you even slip up with your nutrition, ask yourself this key question, “Is what I’m about to eat going to help me be swimsuit ready?” If you answer this question honestly, then the proper action will come next.

Don’t let your friends, family members or co-workers sabotage your efforts. Live according to what is important to you and acknowledge your own progress.

Your simple, new habits will be the magic that helps you get awesome swimsuit shape.

First up, we’ll run through a short history of the bikini (no sniggering at the back, please) and see how we arrive at the micro bikini.

The two-piece swimsuit we know today as the bikini has only been marketed and sold as such for 60 years. But archaeologists have discovered Minoan wall paintings from 1600 B.C. and Roman mosaics from 300 A.D. that show the bikini, so the ancients were livin’ it up! Still, it is the debut of the modern bikini in 1946 and its later modifications that truly define the swimsuit.

The bikini was invented and launched by two French designers: Jacques Heim and Louis Reard. Heim was a swimsuit designer who had created a two-piece suit to be sold in his beach shop in Cannes. He marketed the swimsuit as the “atome,” (named for its small size and meant to be compared with the atom, the smallest particle of matter known). No doubt, it was an outrageously tiny swimsuit.

The same year, Reard was creating his own similar, two-piece swimsuit. He named and marketed his swimsuit as the bikini, claiming that it was “smaller than the smallest bathing suit in the world”. Reard christened his swimsuit the bikini in honor of experimental atomic bombs being detonated in the South Pacific, near the Bikini Reef.

So Reard’s name stuck, though by today’s standards, the bikinis of the 1940s and ’50s were positively modest in their coverage. Bottoms were cut above the navel, and tops fully covered the breasts.

Getting smaller by the year

The bikini went through several changes as time passed. Designers experimented with many varieties for the swimsuit, including a bikini top with attached propellers (!), a suit made entirely of red hair, and even a version made of porcupine quills.

As early as the 1950s, the bikini was already so small that it could be packed into a matchbook, but even more drastic shrinkage lay in store. In the 1970s, the sexual revolution in the United States caused designers to make the bikini even more revealing.

So we had string bikinis, which exposed the navel by fitting the bottoms on the hips. The top, too, provided only bra-style coverage. In the 1980s, the popular thong bikini arrived on the scene. Designers claimed the thong bikini originated from the clothing of Amazonian tribal groups in Brazil. As we know, the thong bikini leaves the bottom virtually uncovered and the back of the suit disappears into the buttocks.

Micro bikinis

In the 1990s and 2000s, designers have continued to revamp the bikini and innovated new styles. While the thong and string bikinis retain their popularity, the micro bikini has recently been added to the growing selection. Essentially, micro bikinis are bikinis combining a micro bikini top and a thong bikini bottom. Needless to add, it is scantier and more revealing than traditional bikinis and hence its name. Buying micro bikinis

A word of warning: you need to be careful that you don’t opt for a string bikini when you mean to buy a micro bikini. There are enough illustrated examples online to show you the difference.

Numerous sites offer essential advice like how to shave your bikini line (hairy exposures will NOT do). Make sure your pubic area in particular is well shorn.

Choose the fabric well. Test your skin for itches and allergic rashes, particularly since you will be spending a lot of time in the sun wearing your bikini

Have plenty of sunscreen handy. You need to use liberal doses all over your body since you obviously will not have much on in terms of protection from the sun’s rays!

Happy bathing!

It’s tough to be beautiful. There’s the curling, the scrubbing, the coloring, the endless work, toil and sweat. It can also be painful. What woman hasn’t suffered from a too-hot curling iron or too-sharp razor? But at the top of the list we find waxing. An essential task, to be sure, but also dicey. You want to make sure it’s done right, quickly and will be effective with a minimum of pain.

Waxing is a relatively simply process, really. Think “wax on, wax off”, and you’ll likely get the idea. Hot wax is applied to the area that needs hair removal, then quickly pulled off and unwanted hairs go with the wax. It can be fairly painful, but the pain is quick and the wax process, fortunately, doesn’t need to be repeated very often.

Herewith are various types of waxes, from a lesser “ouch” factor to a mighty “ouch”!

* Eyebrow (ouch factor of 2) – Eyebrow waxing is a type of waxing you can do yourself at home, though it’s never a bad idea to consult a professional. If you are going to wax your eyebrows yourself, you should always wax from below the eyebrow, not above. Take very little hair off at a time, and be careful of the hot wax being so close to your face. Because the skin above the eye is so sensitive, it’s really recommended you consult a professional for this task.

* Full Face (ouch factor 2) – This involves removing the facial hair you might have around the mouth, cheeks, jaw and chin. You can do this yourself, perhaps even make the wax yourself, but again, experts recommend using a professional since the facial skin is so delicate.

* Legs (ouch factor 3-4) – This is probably the method of waxing most women are familiar with. In the summer, many women choose leg waxing as the preferred method for hair removal since it is generally considered superior to shaving and saves time in those busy summer months – a good leg wax can last as long as 8 weeks.

* Bikini (ouch factor 8-10+) – The big daddy of waxing, the various types of bikini waxes are not for the faint of heart. They are for women who want clean, cool nether regions for summer, and aren’t too modest, since they should only be done by a trained and experienced professional. There are a few different types:

* Bikini – The basic bikini wax involves removing the pubic hair around the bikini panty line. This is delicate territory, so it’s recommended you take an ibuprofen an hour or so before getting it done. But since there are more involved bikini waxes, we’ll give this one an 8 on the pain scale.

* Full bikini – This is also known as a Brazilian bikini wax and it’s the latest, hottest thing in waxes. Seven Brazilian sisters brought this wax to the United States and in a short period of time, this type of wax has overtaken any other bikini wax. In short, it’s a full bikini wax, where only the pubic hair just around the labia is left. Otherwise, you’re bald as an eagle, which might serve you if you wear a thong in the summer or just want to change your life, which is allegedly what Brazilian wax did for Gwyneth Paltrow. This is a full 10 on the pain scale, but many women claim it’s the bomb.

This article provides useful, detailed information about Women’s Bathing Suits.

Women\’s bathing suits can be categorized into one-piece and two-piece suits. There are numerous styles, designs and variants for each type. For example, the bikini, a typical two-piece bathing suit for women, can be further classified into the thong, G-string or tankini. One-piece bathing suits, on the other hand, have variants such as the monokini, stringbody, sling bikini, and halter-neck.

Of the two-piece bathing suits, the bikini is the most popular for women, and is worn in most countries in the West. When the bikini came out in 1946, it was considered too revealing and shunned by many cultures including the United States. However, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the bikini bathing suit suddenly grew in popularity when movies like And God Created Woman and Bikini Beach were released.

The tankini is also a two-piece bathing suit for women, similar to a regular bikini bathing suit, but the top, often referred to as a tank top, extends downward to somewhere between just above the navel and the top of the hips, and is therefore less revealing than a regular bikini top.

The G-string is one of the fastest-selling swimsuit styles among women today. It has its origins in 1970s Brazil and now has many other variants such as the thong, T-back and V-string.

One-piece bathing suits include the monokini, designed by an Austrian named Rudi Gernreich in 1967. It is a one-piece, topless bathing suit for women consisting of only the lower piece of the bikini. Monokini is a variant of the original two-piece bikini bathing suit, and may also be used to refer to other one piece swimsuits such as a sling bikini.

The sling bikini is another very popular swimsuit choice among women. It has side straps that extend upwards to cover the breasts. The straps then go over the shoulders and reach down the back to form a thong. The entire sides of the torso are revealed this way. So the advantage of a sling bikini lies in its convenience, by combining two elements (the top and the bottom pieces) into one.

Other forms of one-piece bathing suits for women include stringbodys, halter-necks, maillots, tanksuits, plunge fronts and pretzel suits.

First, you must be sure that you want to get a brzailian bikini wax. Consider trying first the standard bikini wax which will remove the hair from your bikini line or the full bikini which will remove most of your pubic hair apart from the most sensitive areas. A brazilian bikini wax removes ALL your pubic hair.

We advice you to get your first brazilian bikini wax by a professional. Many women who try to give themselves a brazilian bikini wax, cause damage and their bikini area looks worse after the brazilian wax.

You could find a salon that offers a brazilian bikini wax in any big US city. Just look in the “Yellow pages” or in any search engine for “brazilian wax” + “name of your city”.

After locating a salon, find out how many brazilian waxes they do a week? Make sure that the persons who are responsible for the brazilian bikini wax are experienced. Ask to talk to customers that got a brazilian bikini wax from the same salon.

Open your purse. A brazilian bikini wax may cost up to 100 US dollars. However, the average cost is about 50 bucks. We advice you pay not less than the average price to get a professional treatment.

Come to your scheduled treatment with a good mood after taking a warm shower cleaning your pubic area.

You will get into a separate room or a hole with a curtain. Then you will lie on a bed with your knees up or legs down.

Then, the therapist will trim down your pubic hair with scissors to a length of about a quarter inch.

Afterwards, the real thing will start. The waxer will start the waxing process. He will use a low temperature wax to cause less pain. When the wax cools he will pull it out with your pubic hair. This part is the most painful one. However, the first time is the most painful one. The hair can be pulled out easier in the following times.

The waxer will ask you to get into some weird uncomfortable positions – holding your legs up, to the side and even over your head.

If the waxer is a good one the painful part will end quickly. If you feel it takes too long or that the pain is unbearable, just tell the therapist that you need a little rest.

When the waxing is done a soothing lotion should be applied to the pubic area.

Your bikini area will stay smooth for at least 3 weeks with no maintenance at all. Make the most out of it.

If you thought that dealing with your pubic area is one of the most intimate things think again. In the last few years plucking pubic hair the Brazilian way, meaning removing almost all pubic hair and keeping only a narrow line on the frontal area of the sexual organ, became a widespread fashion among many women all ages.

In order to achieve the Brazilian bikini wax look you will probably have to expose yourself in front of a cosmetician almost as you do when visiting a gynecologist. No body knows exactly how many women having a Brazilian wax but there is no doubt that the industry of Brazilian bikini wax involves millions of dollars. Market researches in the US found out that the sales of razors for men and women have fallen by almost 15% in the last years.

Surprisingly, the Brazilian women were not the first that plucked their pubic hair. Women have removed their pubic hair in ancient Egypt using a mixture of honey and oil and small piece of leather. Women in the Middle East used a mixture of sugar, lemon juice and water to pluck their pubic hair. The process of achieving a Brazilian bikini wax look usually began on the night before the wedding for the purposes of purity.

In the 1920s the first razors and pubic hair removal substances have appeared in the American department stores. The bikini was invented during the time of the Second World War when the manufactures of swim suits were requested to spare with the leather amounts they use. Then, un wanted and embarrassing hair popped up. Women did not know how to remove their un wanted pubic hair they have tried to shave and burn it causing damage to their pubic area. In the 1960s the first Brazilian wax was seen on department stores in America.

Today you can remove your pubic hair in many methods. The most common one are a Brazilian bikini wax or a pubic hair shaving using a professional pubic hair shaver.
