More and more people are giving laser hair removal a shot! If you’re not into this hot, new treatment, then you’ve come to the right place. Imagine never having to deal with messy creams. Imagine talking to the grocery clerk and not having her stare at the hair on your upper lip. Imagine never having to hide your precious parts at the beach.

Stop imagining! You can make your dreams of hairless summers and hairless winters come true. First of all I believe its important for women and men to find out what causes abnormal hair growth before they start drastic measure to remove it. Doctors say hair usually grows abnormally due to hormones. Once youve determined whether you have health concerns related to your hair, then you can decide on the appropriate remedy.

I can tell you lasers are safe and effective in the removal of unwanted hair. A trained specialist can help you determine what treatment is best for you using your skin and hair type. With lasers you dont have to worry about shaving, tweezing, or waxing now and forever. Forever sounds like a long time, doesn’t it? Lasers produce a beam of light that is used to remove hair. The light passes through the skin to the hair follicle. Once it gets to the hair it basically kills it. Neat, huh? The process only takes less than an hour.

Lasers are attracted to dark colors. You’ll get the best results if your hair is darker than your complexion. You’re wondering if the laser has any side effects. It does if you have a tan. Tanning and lasering leads to burning. Ouch, it really hurts so youll want to beware of adding the two in combo. Also, it’s important to note that the laser doesn’t do a thing for blondes, white or gray haired people.

If you’re not ready to give lasers a shot, then there are several other techniques on the market that can help you get rid of your hair-raising problem. Let’s talk about the only permanent hair removal known to man right now. It’s called electrolysis. If you’re scared of needles, then this is not the treatment for you. You’ll want to make sure that you have not waxed or tweezed within a few days of having a treatment. This makes the hair follicle easier for the electrologist to reach.

The electrologist inserts a tiny needle into each hair follicle and uses a short impulse of energy to kill the root. Sounds, cool, huh? The hair is tweezed out one at a time. Sounds like an awfully long process. However, it only takes a few hours. You will most likely need more than one treatment to kill all of your hair. There are electrolysis kits that you can use at home, but I wouldn’t recommend it. You’re better off using a licensed electrologist.

Speaking of problems, what’s yours? Everyone has a specific area of the body where they want to be bald. Women usually hate facial hair on their upper lips, chin and sides of face. Hairs in those areas dont seem to bother men that much! Okay, I shouldn’t joke about it! Hair on the lip is very troubling to most women. It can be removed using a bleaching procedure.

Bleaching works if your hair is similar in color to your skin. Be careful, bleaching lightens hair in dark complexions. Ill never forget someone with a dark complexion once asked me if she could use a depilatory creams on the lip. No way, don’t even think! My response was fast and furious. Depilatories are harsh on sensitive skin and should never be placed on the lips or eyes areas.

The important thing to remember about depilatories is you should use them on the legs and thighs only. Depilatory creams dissolve the keratin in hair. As you can imagine thats some pretty strong stuff! Be sure to test patches of skin before you put the cream on. The cream can cause rashes and skin discolorations. It is possible to treat a negative reaction with an anti-bacterial solution and antibiotic.

Waxing on the other hand is a great way to remove hair from the legs and thighs and bikini area. Your skin will feel so clean, smooth and soft after this procedure. Waxing doesnt irritate your skin the way shaving and creams do. However, waxing is a temporary hair removal procedure. Waxing is similar to the sugaring procedure that is also temporary.

Sugaring is becoming more popular for people who want to be hairless in the bikini area. The sugar is warmed not at all like the high heat thats used in waxing. The warmed sugar is placed on the skin. Your technician will then remove the sugar with muslin strips. The sugar sticks mostly to the hair and not the skin. That makes it easier when its time to remove the hair. I highly recommend sugaring because the red bumps and other skin irritations are minimized with it.

Youre daring, right? You want a bikini wax, but you want it all over. Then, youll have to try what is called a Brazilian bikini wax. Have you ever been to Brazil? The natives are not at all ashamed of their bodies. The Brazilian wax removes hair all over the pubic area including the labia and buttocks. You can tell your technician how far to go, or not go. A patch of hair is sometimes left above the vagina.

Now, the procedure for getting a Brazilian wax is the same just about as with a bikini wax. Youll be given a paper thong if youre a little shy to put on for Brazilian bikini wax. Your hair will be cut using some scissors. The wax is then put on using a wooden stick. Strips of cloth are used to take the hair off. Tweezers are sometimes used to pick away stray hairs. Some folks say it hurts, others swear it works magic to improve their self-esteem and body image. You now have choices whether its shavers and creams or lasers and wax. You no longer have to live with a hair-raising experience. Get rid of it! The choice is yours.

You’ve probably heard about how lots of European women don’t give a fig about underarm hair or hair on their legs. But many other women are not as accepting of body hair as their European counterparts. And throughout history, women have been employing various techniques to do this: from ancient Egyptian women’s use of beeswax and sharp implements to eliminate leg hair up to the modern-day practices of waxing and the use of lasers to achieve a smooth and hairless complexion. Here, we’ll take a quick look at some of the pros and cons of laser hair removal and whether it’s the right path to take for a more hairless you.

Hair is removed via lasers in the following way: a series of low-level laser beams is targeted at hair follicles (or the root of the hair) in certain areas of the body. The hair then falls out and new growth is discouraged. Here are some of the reasons for the popularity of laser hair removal: Long-lasting results. The laser beams zoom in on hair follicles, either destroying them or significantly disabling them. Thus, hair is a lot slower to grow back and in some cases, they don’t grow back altogether. And any hair that grows back tends to be finer, thinner, and less visible. Imagine the time savings you could realize. Finally, freedom from regular bikini waxes, leg-shaving, and facial hair-plucking!

Broader and more convenient applications. Laser hair removal technologies and equipment have evolved in such a way that it is now possible to treat broad areas of the skin – such as the back and legs – in addition to localized areas like the skin above the upper lip and around the nipples. There is a wide variety of laser hair removal gadgets and equipment to suit individual cases.

Increased safety regulations. Hair removal via laser is a process approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). So, the techniques used must meet stringent regulations. In addition, individual states themselves are issuing criteria that laser hair removal cosmeticians must comply with in order to practice their trade.

Laser hair removal may seem like a godsend to many a woman, but she would do well to remember that it is not a “one-size-fits-all” sort of technology. Like most other cosmetic procedures today, it does have its disadvantages, the following of which are just a few. Slower results for dark-skinned or tanned women. Laser hair removal procedures are most suitable for individuals with light-colored skin and dark hair because the laser beam targets dark material. Dark skin pigmentation can prevent lasers from reaching the hair follicles more rapidly. Evidence also shows that the lighter a woman’s hair color, the less efficient the technology is in eliminating those problem hairs.

Laser hair removal treatment costs. It takes several sessions to rid a body part of hair, and each session costs on average $300 up to $1,000. It really depends on how much hair needs to be removed and the type of lasers used. Some clinics’ laser hair removal prices are calculated on a “per-pulse” basis and several hundred laser pulses may be needed to remove hair in just one area. Also, because hair grows in cycles, it’s almost a sure bet that repeat sessions will be needed to ensure that all unwanted hair is removed – which translates to more cash out of your pocket.

Potential side effects or no effect at all. All cosmetic procedures carry a risk of adverse effects, and laser hair removal is no exception. Patients have complained of first- and second-degree burns, blisters, and lesions. Others have noted that patterns of hair regrowth are patchy and unpleasant to look at. And still others have inexplicably experienced insignificant or no hair loss at all, despite their being ideal candidates for the procedure.

Laser hair removal is just one of the wonders of modern dermatology, technology that can make a woman look more beautiful in the shortest amount of time and in the safest way possible. Although procedures like this are constantly changing and improving, you shouldn’t just rush blindly into it. It’s important to consult your dermatologist and conduct your own research to determine whether you’ll be getting the maximum benefits that medical laser techniques can offer.

The laser has become a precision surgical instrument widely used for a variety of procedures. Most recently, lasers have been utilized for the quick, gentle removal of unwanted hairs. The laser works by sending a pulsating beam of light, of a particular wavelength to precise areas on the skin. The light passes directly through the skin, but is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and shaft. Once absorbed by laser light, the follicles are impaired from future growth, and eventually die off. Laser hair removal has come a long way since the first laser for hair removal received FDA clearance in mid 1998. Older generation normal-mode ruby lasers were very slow, very painful and worked only on individuals with very dark hair and very light skin. Today, lasers can work on all skin colors and some lasers are even safe for treating tanned skin.

Lasers are not for everyone, and their proper use requires great skill, training and expertise. The laser technician at minimum must be a Certified Laser Specialist who has graduated from an accredited school for laser. Generally it is best to have a laser-trained dermatologist, or plastic surgeon perform the procedure, in case of complications. For the laser to be effective, the hair pigment must be darker than the surrounding skin pigment. If this is not the case, the treatment will not work and may have harmful complications. Additionally very darkly pigmented people absorb too much laser energy in their skin and are not ideal candidates. Tanned patients with light hair are not candidates either.

Light skin makes laser hair removal easier to perform. Fewer treatments are required, and better, faster results are obtained. People with darker skin can be treated, but results are slower, more sessions are required, and greater expertise is required on the part of the doctor. Coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment, light hair is more difficult to treat. Blonde or red hair is very difficult to treat, multiple treatment sessions are required, and results are variable. Laser hair removal must be individualized for each patient.

Although one laser session can produce impressive hair removal, generally, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to see optimal results. In large part this is due to the fact that laser hair removal is most effective for hair, which is in the growth phase. Since hair grows in cycles, not all of the hairs are in the growth phase at any given time. Additional sessions are necessary to catch all of the hairs when they are in this phase.

Any area, except adjacent to the eye, where there is excess hair can be treated. The most common areas requested are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, breast region, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs.

The costs for a single laser hair removal treatment vary depending on the part of the country, and range from $300.00 to $500.00 per session. Consumers are advised, as with all forms of medical care, to seek the center of highest quality, rather than lowest cost. Laser hair removal requires a great deal of skill, individual attention, experience, and a trained, caring, professional staff.

After treatment, most patients have a mild sunburn-type sensation that fades in 2-3 hours. Moisturizers and/or cool compresses can help during this time. Small blister areas can be treated with topical antibiotic until resolved. Sun block should be used for up to 6 weeks after treatment if sun exposure is anticipated. No waxing, shaving, or dying should be performed for 2 weeks after treatment. Pretreatment restrictions are also applicable to the post treatment period.

It must be remembered that it is impossible to predict the exact result a patient will achieve with laser hair removal, especially with regard to how many sessions a given individual will require. The indication for laser hair removal is mostly subjective. A desire for hair removal is the only criterion for laser hair removal.

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

It is a relatively new treatment that makes use of lasers to remove hair from the body.

The practitioner uses a hand held device that emits a laser that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair. Once absorbed heat energy is produces in the hair which travels down the shaft and destroys the root.

The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat.

Is it safe?

Yes. The laser settings are customised depending on your skin and hair colour. There is very little risk of any damage to your skin.

Will the laser hair removal treatment get rid of my hair permanently?

Tiny hair re-growth is possible but comparing laser hair removal with other methods of hair removal it produces the best long term results. Hair grown after the treatment is usually very thin and weak and can be easily treated.

Does it hurt?

Laser treatment is not completely painless, usually a slight sting can be felt but it is no where near the pain experienced when waxing or epilating. Most patients can bare it without the need of anaesthesia. However patients with very low pain thresholds can ask for a cream based anaesthesia to be applied to the skin.

Can everyone get it done?

No. I am afraid it is not possible to treat very light shades of hair such as white, grey, light blonde etc.

In addition to hair colour people with dark skin can only be treated with very specialised lasers available at very few laser hair removal clinics. Tanned people with light hair cannot be treated.

The treatment works best on light skinned people with dark hair.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends solely on the size of the area being operated on. It can take anywhere between 10 minutes, for parts such as the chin to about 35 minutes for the back.

What areas can be treated?

Apart from parts very close to the eye all other areas such as legs, back, arms, bikini line, chest etc can be treated.

How much does it cost?

Laser hair removal treatment is not cheap. That depends on the size of the area being treated. Usually it costs about 200 dollars per session of small areas such as the upper lip/chin rising to 500 for large areas such as the back and the legs.

How many sessions are required?

Many factors come into play and it varies from patient to patient but usually anywhere between three and six are needed for the best results.

Looking to remove some of those unsightly hairs form certain regions of your body? There are several options, each with its advantages and disadvantages.

Hair removal used to be the sole territory of women (North American women, at that!) but such is the case no longer. Men are getting hair removed in ever greater numbers, and for most of the population that is a good thing. The question for both men and women who wan to have hair removed is; What treatment should I go for? There are a few options, including the traditional razor, waxing, and a relatively new technique, laser hair removal.

The razor, of course, is tried, true, convenient, and cheap. However, if you remove that hair with a razor, be prepared for a lot of repeats. This can cause skin irritation and roughness. Also, using a razor on some of body parts is virtually impossible- men who want to shave their backs are going to be pretty much out of luck.

One alternative to the razor is waxing. Waxing is more expensive than using a razor, but it also lasts much longer. Waxing is also a better option for areas with a large amount of hair, and it even cuts down on some work. Waxing can also be done with more precision that using a razor, which is great for a nicely sculpted look.

The drawback to waxing, of course, is that it hurts. Make no mistake, you are ripping the hairs out be the root, and there is pain involved. Many people brave the pain, though, and are rewarded with a long term, beautifully sculpted hairless area. If the thought of waxing makes you want to run away screaming, there is another option.

Lasers are the latest rage in all sorts of cosmetic procedures, and hair removal is just one. Removing unwanted hair with lasers is painless, and as with waxing the effects are long term. Some people believe laser hair removal is permanent, but in fact it takes several treatments before the hair stops growing altogether. The downside to laser hair removal, of course, is the price. It is a very expensive procedure. Utilizing laser hair removal in just the bikini area can run upwards of $1,000. The cost of just one section of leg can be as high as $2,500!

Like a lot of areas in life, ease comes expensively. The more you are willing to spend, the more convenient the hair removal you may purchase. If you go the expensive route, make sure to shop around before signing the credit card bill!

Laser hair removal is rapidly growing to be the most popular quick painless hair removal treatment of all time. This is largely because of the immense benefits that the treatment seems to promise to millions of people around the world who are feeling unattractive due to the presence of unwanted body hair. Electrolysis for hair removal is fast becoming a thing of the past even as quick hair removal methods like waxing and tweezing continue to diminish in popularity as long-term or permanent hair removal treatments. So you are beginning to catch the drift here, that while several marketers may offer a variety of permanent hair removal solutions, few actually make consumer sense in terms of the total benefits that it offers. And this where laser hair removal has stood its ground, offering a miraculous mode of escape from unwanted hair, be it facial hair removal for women, be it back hair removal for men. This space age technology is gaining in popularity primarily because of the marginal utilities it can offer you, be it time or money, speed or accuracy as far as quick painless hair removal treatments go.

The beauty of laser hair removal as a permanent hair removal solution is it applicability over a wide range of body areas and surfaces. You can choose you pick among specialized laser hair treatments for hair removal from your back, cheeks, upper lip, under arms, legs, arms, back, thighs, shoulders, bikini hair removal among a wide range of possibilities. And what’s more, not only is this, a quick painless hair removal procedure, but the effect is also long lasting so much so that there is a lobby advocating this treatment as a permanent hair removal solution.

The secret of this form of hair removal treatment is the fact that the lasers with the help of light energy beams thermally agitate the base of your hair follicles and destabilize it without physically ever impacting your skin. And since it’s a highly concentrated focused beam, the accuracy and effect are greatly accentuated to the target area of hair removal. In just a few treatments lasting from under 5 minutes to up to a maximum of an hour, you can experience a technology that not only gives you a permanent hair removal solution but one which also promises to effect a quick painless hair removal.

Laser hair removal – benefit from the future today itself!

When it comes to body hair removal, a laser hair removal treatment is by far the most effective and permanent method available. In order to understand this procedure further, listed below we have the top 5 questions and answers about lazer hair removal.

1. How does lazer hair removal work?
A laser hair removal treatment uses specially designed laser to heat the hair follicles and render them inactive. The energy from the lasers used is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft otherwise known as melanin and any subsequent hair that grows from this hair follicle will be much lighter in color. After a number of treatments many people find that their lazer hair removal treatments have produced permanent hair removal results.

2. Can anyone have lazer hair removal carried out?
Although skin color and type will affect lazer hair removal, this is only in the amount of treatments that will be required. Darker hair is easier to treat than lighter hair.

3. What areas of the body can I have lazer hair removal on?
Lazer hair removal can be carried out on almost every part of the body except the eye area. This treatment is suitable for both men and women and the most common areas treated are the upper lip, underarms, bikini area, legs, chest, back, and face.

4. What makes lazer hair removal so popular?
The main reason behind the popularity of lazer hair removal has to be the permanent hair removal results that can be achieved. A laser hair removal treatment is also virtually pain free and when compared with other body hair removal options such as shaving, plucking and waxing there really is no comparison.

5. Are there any side effects?
The only side effect that you may be likely to experience after a laser hair removal treatment is a slight reddening of the skin. This usually lasts for approximately 20 minutes but will depend on your skin sensitivity.

This article provides useful, detailed information about Laser Hair Removal Side Effects.

Lasers are the latest in hair removal technology. Even though the cost is high, people have grown to accept the treatment. In fact, lasers are seen as the best mode of hair removal today. However, the treatment does come with a fair share of side effects, at times with fatal consequences. In January 2005, a woman from North Carolina lost her life when she received an excessive amount of anaesthetic cream before the laser treatment.

Edema (swelling of any organ die to excessive fluid) and erythema (redness of skin) are common occurrences post laser treatment. Some blisters may appear, mainly in darker-skinned patients, who could experience changes such as darkening or lightening of the skin that could last weeks or sometimes months. There is little risk of scarring or infection. However, if the blister is irritated there could be scarring. Clients may suffer loss of freckles, darkening or lightening of tattoo color and discoloration of moles in the areas of treatment. With the use the Ruby laser, there is a very minute possibility that a fever blister outbreak may take place, mainly when bikini areas have been treated.

It is imperative that people with certain medical conditions consult a physician before undergoing laser hair removal treatment. That category includes clients who have recovered slowly after having undergone previous treatments; clients with white/grey hair; patients susceptible to discoloration of the skin and pregnant women (even if there is no direct evidence to suggest that laser used for hair removal treatment can damage fetus). Laser hair removal can cause fever blisters, particularly on the upper portion of the lip. It is best to go under antiviral medication before the procedure. Tanned clients should wait for the tan to lighten for best results. Those under prescription of photosynthesizing medicine like Accutane, should stop the medication months before the laser treatment, Clients using Retin-A, Accutane or tetracycline should discontinue the medication several weeks prior to the treatment.
