There are many different techniques to remove unwanted hair. Some of these include waxing, shaving, coils, electrolysis and laser. Although each has its advantages and disadvantages, they all perform the same function. That is removing unwanted hair.

One such technique that has become quite popular these days is laser hair removal. This technique works by using a laser on the hair at a specified wavelength that emits a specialized light. The light from the laser is passed through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. This light actually targets the melanin (colour) in the hair follicle and damages it, thereby causing the hair to fall out. Interestingly, the use of certain laser for removing hair has been approved by The Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Although the technique is popular, there are advantages and disadvantages of using this method.

Advantages of Laser Hair Removal

The laser hair removal process has advantages in that larger areas can be treated. In addition it is also safe enough to be used on all parts of the body such as the face, back, underarm, bikini line, legs and arms. Compared to electrolysis, it is less painful as the laser only causes a slight burning sensation compared to the needle prick feeling of electrolysis. Unlike shaving or waxing, laser hair removal is usually long lasting.

Disadvantages of Laser Hair Removal

One disadvantage for laser hair removal is that not everyone is the perfect candidate for this type of treatment. Those with lighter skin and dark hair have a much higher chance of permanent hair removal than grey, red or blonde hair. In addition, those with dark skin or who are tanned are also not good candidates as the laser may cause damage to their skin due to high pigment levels. The reason being is that dark hair contains a pigment called eumelanin which effectively absorbs more laser energy and therefore results in more effective destruction of the hair follicle. Due to the higher effectiveness of the treatment towards dark haired fair skin patients, it leads to fewer treatment and is therefore less costly. Other the other hand, grey, red and blonde hair contain a pigment called pheomelanin that absorbs less laser energy reducing the effectiveness of the treatment. Therefore extra treatment is required for the same effect. So before you sign up for this treatment, make sure you know the principal of this treatment. If you are not an ideal candidate, be prepared for extra treatment charges.

Laser hair removal is expensive due to the multiple treatments required. The reasons is that hair grows in a cycle that ranges from approximately 6 to 12 weeks and this is the amount of time that it takes hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin. As hair grows during these cycles, only a portion of the hair is being treated during this growth period with each laser treatment. Therefore multiple treatments (approximately four to eight depending upon your colour of your hair and skin) are required during this growth period. This is so that each treatment allows total coverage on all hairs during the various growth cycle. This can range from approximately a four to eight week interval. As discussed above, darked hair patients with fair skin require less treatment.

The average cost per treatment ranges from $500 and about four sessions are required. Again, this number will differ depending upon the size of the area treated and the colour of your skin and hair. To get an exact cost, a consultation on pricing is an individual process and it is best to discuss this with the laser center.

Once you have decided to undertake this treatment, make sure it is performed by an experienced laser treatment centre. Due to different state regulations, there has been varying level of compliance with laser hair removal centres and this has resulted in improper treatment by unskilled clinics. Some states require a doctor to perform the treatment, whilst for others; anyone including unskilled personnel can perform the treatment. Read the latest news on laser hair removal for more information. These improper unskilled clinic may result in burns (similar to sunburn), lesions, skin discolouration that can last several months, or patchy/patterned regrowth. One rule to remember is that cheaper is not always the best, so find the best laser hair removal centre around.

The laser has become a precision surgical instrument widely used for a variety of procedures. Most recently, lasers have been utilized for the quick, gentle removal of unwanted hairs. The laser works by sending a pulsating beam of light, of a particular wavelength to precise areas on the skin. The light passes directly through the skin, but is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle and shaft. Once absorbed by laser light, the follicles are impaired from future growth, and eventually die off. Laser hair removal has come a long way since the first laser for hair removal received FDA clearance in mid 1998. Older generation normal-mode ruby lasers were very slow, very painful and worked only on individuals with very dark hair and very light skin. Today, lasers can work on all skin colors and some lasers are even safe for treating tanned skin.

Lasers are not for everyone, and their proper use requires great skill, training and expertise. The laser technician at minimum must be a Certified Laser Specialist who has graduated from an accredited school for laser. Generally it is best to have a laser-trained dermatologist, or plastic surgeon perform the procedure, in case of complications. For the laser to be effective, the hair pigment must be darker than the surrounding skin pigment. If this is not the case, the treatment will not work and may have harmful complications. Additionally very darkly pigmented people absorb too much laser energy in their skin and are not ideal candidates. Tanned patients with light hair are not candidates either.

Light skin makes laser hair removal easier to perform. Fewer treatments are required, and better, faster results are obtained. People with darker skin can be treated, but results are slower, more sessions are required, and greater expertise is required on the part of the doctor. Coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment, light hair is more difficult to treat. Blonde or red hair is very difficult to treat, multiple treatment sessions are required, and results are variable. Laser hair removal must be individualized for each patient.

Although one laser session can produce impressive hair removal, generally, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to see optimal results. In large part this is due to the fact that laser hair removal is most effective for hair, which is in the growth phase. Since hair grows in cycles, not all of the hairs are in the growth phase at any given time. Additional sessions are necessary to catch all of the hairs when they are in this phase.

Any area, except adjacent to the eye, where there is excess hair can be treated. The most common areas requested are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, breast region, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line, and legs.

The costs for a single laser hair removal treatment vary depending on the part of the country, and range from $300.00 to $500.00 per session. Consumers are advised, as with all forms of medical care, to seek the center of highest quality, rather than lowest cost. Laser hair removal requires a great deal of skill, individual attention, experience, and a trained, caring, professional staff.

After treatment, most patients have a mild sunburn-type sensation that fades in 2-3 hours. Moisturizers and/or cool compresses can help during this time. Small blister areas can be treated with topical antibiotic until resolved. Sun block should be used for up to 6 weeks after treatment if sun exposure is anticipated. No waxing, shaving, or dying should be performed for 2 weeks after treatment. Pretreatment restrictions are also applicable to the post treatment period.

It must be remembered that it is impossible to predict the exact result a patient will achieve with laser hair removal, especially with regard to how many sessions a given individual will require. The indication for laser hair removal is mostly subjective. A desire for hair removal is the only criterion for laser hair removal.

Both males and females have unwanted hairs in their body. Everybody wishes to be fresh and energetic. It can be done in a many number of ways according the level of hairs in the body. It is found that around 80% of the women and around 50% of the men are going for hair removal in some form or the other. Facial hair removal is more popular among men and women.

Hair removal in the hands, legs, arms, underarms, bikini area, face, and eyebrows are commonly practiced these days. Sports persons go for hair removal since it will cut down the wind resistance and improve their competitive speeds. There is a report saying that hair removal salons are getting more and more men customers for removing hair.

Different devices are used for hair removal in different parts of the body. Waxing, sugaring, and electrolysis are the most preferred methods for permanent body hair removal. Laser treatments are also used for permanent body hair removal. Waxing is a method of hair removal in which wax is applied over the hairs and then a cotton strip is rubbed on the wax in the direction of the hair growth.

Waxing and sugaring are done for male body hair removal. Waxing removes the hairs from the roots and hence the regrowth of hairs in the removed area takes between 6 to 8 weeks. After hair removal through waxing even if the hair grows it is thinner and is sparser in the area. There are not many hairs in that area. Upon further hair removal the hair may go off permanently. Usage of a hair growth inhibitor after male body hair removal through waxing is usually done to reduce the growth of hairs in that area.

Then the cotton strip is removed in the opposite direction of the hair growth for permanent body hair removal. Sugaring is also a method that is used for hair removal permanently. The difference is the sugar paste instead of wax for removal. Whether a person is using waxing or sugaring he is advised to use a hair growth inhibitor after the removal of hairs to prevent hair growth or to slow down the growth of hairs.

Most of the sports persons who are involved in the sports like swimming and cycling opt for permanent body hair removal, since permanent body hair removal would improve their speeds by reducing the air friction. There are many devices that are used for permanent body hair removal. Each device comes with its own functionality and ease of use with a price tag that is affordable.

Electrolysis and Laser treatments remove the hairs permanently from the skin. In these methods the hair follicle is destroyed so that the hair does not grow again. Electrolysis method uses needles to supply electric current to the hair follicles. This electric current creates some chemical changes or generates heat to destroy the hair follicles. In Laser treatment the laser beams are directed towards the hair follicles to destroy it. Laser treatments are costly when compared to other methods of hair removal.

You can shave, pluck, wax, bleach or depilate, but the one inherent problem with unwanted hair is that is always grows back.

Laser Hair Removal, seems to be one of the only permanent solutions to removing hair in places youd rather be without.

Laser Hair Removal has been performed since the mid 90s or so. Even thought this procedure is fairly new, more efficient techniques are still being developed by researchers. Men and women the world over have found relief from unwanted hair via Laser Hair Removal. Women prefer to be sans hair in facial areas, the legs, arms, underarms and the bikini area. While men have increasingly found laser hair removal beneficial for excessive hair on the chest, shoulders and back (no more excuses for hairy backs).

Laser Hair Removal has many advantages over waxing and electrolysis, but none are as more comforting than the reduced pain factors. If you have thinker skin than you may bypass the topical anesthetic, but if you prefer not to feel any discomfort what so ever, you simply need to apply the miracle cream one hour before your Laser Hair Removal treatment and you can say ciao to pain!

Laser Hair Removal machines are well adapted to treating large surface areas, making laser treatment an excellent and more permanent alternative to conventional removal methods.

In essence, the Laser Hair Removal machines energy is absorbed by the pigment that gives hair its color. Red and near-infrared laser light propelled by the machine is strongly absorbed by brown or black hair, while red and blond hair absorbs very little infrared light. The energy of the absorbed laser light is released into the hair follicle, and therefore damaging or destroying the target tissue in the follicle. Its crucial that the correct laser intensity be used for hair removal. If the intensity is too strong, the laser beam will burn your skin. You should request a patch test to see how your skin reacts to the laser before going through a full removal.

Laser Hair Removal is ideal for almost all skin coloring. That said, darker complexions should note that the a higher level of pigmented skin tends to absorb more of the red to infrared laser wavelengths, while fair skin absorbs less of these laser wavelengths. Hence, the chances of darker complexion of burning and scaring are MUCH greater. You must discuss this serious side effect with your medical spa expert or your dermatologist.

Freedom from unwanted hair is very possible thanks to Laser Hair Removal methods. That said, Laser Hair Removal is a highly effective way of reducing hair, but like another other method its not 100 percent effective in permanently removing all unwanted hair. Some body parts such as the bikini area will require yearly Laser Hair Removal treatments to continuously reduce the hair mass and thin out hair re-growth.

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

It is a relatively new treatment that makes use of lasers to remove hair from the body.

The practitioner uses a hand held device that emits a laser that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair. Once absorbed heat energy is produces in the hair which travels down the shaft and destroys the root.

The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat.

Is it safe?

Yes. The laser settings are customised depending on your skin and hair colour. There is very little risk of any damage to your skin.

Will the laser hair removal treatment get rid of my hair permanently?

Tiny hair re-growth is possible but comparing laser hair removal with other methods of hair removal it produces the best long term results. Hair grown after the treatment is usually very thin and weak and can be easily treated.

Does it hurt?

Laser treatment is not completely painless, usually a slight sting can be felt but it is no where near the pain experienced when waxing or epilating. Most patients can bare it without the need of anaesthesia. However patients with very low pain thresholds can ask for a cream based anaesthesia to be applied to the skin.

Can everyone get it done?

No. I am afraid it is not possible to treat very light shades of hair such as white, grey, light blonde etc.

In addition to hair colour people with dark skin can only be treated with very specialised lasers available at very few laser hair removal clinics. Tanned people with light hair cannot be treated.

The treatment works best on light skinned people with dark hair.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends solely on the size of the area being operated on. It can take anywhere between 10 minutes, for parts such as the chin to about 35 minutes for the back.

What areas can be treated?

Apart from parts very close to the eye all other areas such as legs, back, arms, bikini line, chest etc can be treated.

How much does it cost?

Laser hair removal treatment is not cheap. That depends on the size of the area being treated. Usually it costs about 200 dollars per session of small areas such as the upper lip/chin rising to 500 for large areas such as the back and the legs.

How many sessions are required?

Many factors come into play and it varies from patient to patient but usually anywhere between three and six are needed for the best results.

What should I expect after the laser hair removal treatment?

The laser treatment area goes pink after the treatment, like sunburn, and stays that way for about one to two days. Minor discomfort will be felt during this period. The laser treated hair falls off by itself within a few days.

For decades in this country men and women alike have been in search of the best way to remove hair and keep it off. A smooth, hairless body seems to be a trend that is here to stay as people are discovering its benefits and how easy it can really be to maintain such a look. Whether suffering from the excessive hair growth of hirsutism or simply looking to keep unwanted hair off, there are many methods, but none quite as long lasting and easy as laser hair removal New Jersey.

How Laser Hair Removal Works Laser hair removal can be as specific and targeted as the few stray hairs on the eyebrows. At the same time it can remove hair from large areas such as the back and legs. The specific, targeted beam of light can zoom in on the roots of hair anywhere. This light then deadens the root causing the hair to fall out and not grow back.

Laser hair removal treatments are generally done in hour to 45 minute sessions. Sometimes it takes 3 or more sessions to completely kill the roots of the whole area where hair removal is wanted.

After a laser treatment session, the skin may be a little red or irritated, but this usually goes away within a short time. The process is so non-evasive that you can return back to work. It makes going on your lunch hour or before work a viable option. The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal Laser hair removal is permanent as soon as the individual hair root is deadened. This makes the process one of the most desirable hair removal systems for many people who don’t ever want the hair to grow back.

Laser hair removal is also able to complete this task over large areas of the skin. Men often want a hairless chest or back and women often remove hair from their legs – - both large areas and often too painstaking for waxing, tweezing, or removing with an epilator.

The laser technology associated with this form of hair removal is safe and effective for unwanted hair anywhere. It can be used to remove female pubic hair in place of bikini waxing, sugaring, or crme hair removers. It works on armpits, eyebrows or individual stray hairs that may form on the face, breasts, and abdomen. Caring for Skin After Laser Removal Skin may be slightly red and a little sensitive following the laser removal procedure. This will go away quickly and painlessly.

Laser removal of hair does not affect tanning. You will still get the same quality of suntan as before being exposed to a laser, although you should not tan immediately following the procedure since skin will be highly sensitive to sunlight for a short time after laser treatment.

Apply cosmetics will be save also after a laser treatment. Laser hair removal doesn’t usually dry skin, but you may want to choose a cosmetic with a moisturiser just to keep skin radiant and healthy looking.

Lasers are the latest in hair removal technology. Even though the cost is high, people have grown to accept the treatment. In fact, lasers are seen as the best mode of hair removal today. However, the treatment does come with a fair share of side effects, at times with fatal consequences. In January 2005, a woman from North Carolina lost her life when she received an excessive amount of anaesthetic cream before the laser treatment.

Edema (swelling of any organ die to excessive fluid) and erythema (redness of skin) are common occurrences post laser treatment. Some blisters may appear, mainly in darker-skinned patients, who could experience changes such as darkening or lightening of the skin that could last weeks or sometimes months. There is little risk of scarring or infection. However, if the blister is irritated there could be scarring. Clients may suffer loss of freckles, darkening or lightening of tattoo color and discoloration of moles in the areas of treatment. With the use the Ruby laser, there is a very minute possibility that a fever blister outbreak may take place, mainly when bikini areas have been treated.

It is imperative that people with certain medical conditions consult a physician before undergoing laser hair removal treatment. That category includes clients who have recovered slowly after having undergone previous treatments; clients with white/grey hair; patients susceptible to discoloration of the skin and pregnant women (even if there is no direct evidence to suggest that laser used for hair removal treatment can damage fetus). Laser hair removal can cause fever blisters, particularly on the upper portion of the lip. It is best to go under antiviral medication before the procedure. Tanned clients should wait for the tan to lighten for best results. Those under prescription of photosynthesizing medicine like Accutane, should stop the medication months before the laser treatment, Clients using Retin-A, Accutane or tetracycline should discontinue the medication several weeks prior to the treatment.
